What To Expect

Choose Your Experience

Select the senior session that best fits what you're looking for. Quick and easy "cap and gown only" sessions, or express yourself with a "full session" that includes casual dress and grad gown images.

Smile and Pose

Prior to your appointment, we'll guide you through preparing for your session and let you know what to expect (check your emails). During the shoot, we will calmly direct and pose you so you feel comfortable, confident, and ready for great portraits.

Pick Your Favorites

Immediately after your studio session, we review the best images together and choose the photos and products you love the most. Order your keepsakes at that time and choose from prints, frames, canvases, downloads and more.

Get Your Stuff

A few weeks after your session, your portraits are professionally retouched and orders are submitted. We will deliver your order to your school and notify you via email--this includes digital download orders. Our order delivery process is 4-6 weeks.

Cap and Gown Only Session

Approximately 30 Minutes Total Time: These sessions are quick--15-minutes with only graduation cap and gown images.

No casual outfit portraits.

Choose Your Favorites: Immediately after your session, you'll view your images, select your yearbook pose, and place your portrait order with the help of a proofing specialist. Please allow up to 30 minutes for the viewing and ordering appointment.

Parents Welcome: We encourage parents to attend and help select your favorite portraits to celebrate this special milestone.
$0 reservation fee for this session type.

Book Your Cap and Gown Session

Full Senior Portrait Session

Approximately 1 Hour Total: Your appointment starts with a 25-minute portrait session followed by an image viewing and ordering session which can last up to 30 minutes.
One Outfit + Cap & Gown: Seniors are photographed in one casual outfit, with both standing and seated poses, plus studio-provided cap-and-gown portraits.
Choose Your Favorites: Immediately after your session, you'll view your images, select your yearbook pose, and place your portrait order with the help of a proofing specialist. Please allow up to 30 minutes for the viewing and ordering appointment.
Parents Welcome: We encourage parents to attend and help select your favorite portraits to celebrate this special milestone.
$30 reservation fee for this session type is applied toward your purchase.

There is no session fee for your studio senior portrait appointment. Our goal is to create timeless portraits that celebrate this exciting milestone and become lasting keepsakes of your student's senior year. For signature Outdoor Sessions, there is a $100 Session Reservation Fee applied towards package selection
There is no minimum purchase requirement. You are welcome to order as much or as little as you like. Portrait packages include a designated number of poses, and the prints included in a package are assigned to those specific poses and cannot be split or transferred to other images.
Flexible payment plans are available for orders over $250. A 50% deposit is required when the order is placed. Orders will enter production once payment has been received in full.
Portrait orders are typically ready 4–6 weeks after final payment. Orders may be picked up at your school (when available) or at our Oak Forest studio. Because of the seasonal volume of senior portraits, we are unable to accommodate rush orders.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I wear to my "Cap and Gown Only" session?

For cap and gown only sessions, we got you covered! We have all of your grad regalia including NHS stoles, tassels, graduation cap and gown, and even white shirt collars and neckties. We recommend the following:

Girls: please wear a lower neckline so your top does not show under the v-neck cut of the grad gown.

Boys: please wear a flat collar t-shirt (not polo-style collars) so we can put our shirt collar and tie on you. Should you choose to wear your own shirt and tie, please wear a button-down and tie that will coordinate with your grad gown color (see sample photos on our webpage for your school).

What do I wear to my "Full Session" appointment?

Due to our back-to-back scheduling, we limit you to only one outfit for full sessions. Please arrive dressed (or early if you have to change into your outfit).

You can be as casual or as dressy as you like (however we've had seniors regret not being dressed up enough in previous years), but we recommend dressing a little nicer than usual, since these are your senior portraits after all.

We begin all full sessions in your casual outfit and end with the grad cap and gown. Please arrive to your shoot as ready as possible.

Can I bring someone with me into the camera room?

At this time, only the students being photographed and Lot Five Studios staff are permitted in the camera room during sessions. If we have any questions that need parent input, we are happy to have them lean in, but ask that they remain in the studio lobby otherwise.

What is "Yearbook Pose?"

Yearbook pose is photographed with the graduation cap on, hands not showing, in cap and gown regalia, including NHS stole, if eligible.

If you want portraits made without graduation attire or additional cap and gown poses, a full Session appointment is required.

Do I have to make an appointment?

Yes! All sessions must be booked in advance. We do not take walk-in appointments.

How do I make an appointment?

Pick your session type and follow the instructions on the calendar to book your session.

Please note: due to the short time period and limited number of appointments available, cancellation, modification or rescheduling of appointments is not permitted. Thanks for your understanding.

Do I need to bring my own cap & gown?

If you attend one of our partner schools, then don't worry, we got you!

Our studio has special photography caps and gowns for your use in the studio, as well as any additional regalia that your school has provided us for their commencement attire. Please contact us if you do not attend one of our partner schools.

Lot Five Studios has white shirt collars and ties for any senior who would like to wear them in their cap and gown photos.

Planning on not wearing a necktie? Then please wear a top with a lower neckline to our studio so it does not show under the v-neck cut of the grad gown.

You are welcome to bring your own collared shirt to wear under the graduation gown. Please make sure it is clean and pressed, and able to button up to the top button around your neck.

You may bring your own necktie, as well, but it is not required--we have many ties to choose from in the studio for your use.

I'm worried about my hair and the cap!

You're not alone! Fortunately, we have years and years of experience fitting seniors in caps for photos, and we will work with you to fit your graduation cap appropriately.

We recommend that seniors avoid top-knot and high ponytail styles, as they will affect the way the cap will be seated on the head.

We recommend longer hair be styled down and shorter layers styled away from the face to prevent unwanted shadows. Bangs that normally cover or obscure the eyes don't photograph as well as layers that are styled above or away from the eyes.

Hairstyles shorter than ear length will most likely be hidden by the fit of the cap.

For seniors who normally wear their hair in a patka, we recommend wearing or bringing a turban or head wrap of a more formal nature for the cap and gown photos.
